Meaning of Open Access
In accordance with the main definitions of open access in scientific literature (i.e. the Budapest, Berlin, and Bethesda declarations), Synergisia defines open access in the following terms:
peer-reviewed literature is freely available without subscription or price restrictions,
literature is immediately released in an open access format (no embargo period), and
published material may be reused without obtaining permission as long as proper citation to the original publication is given.
This means that all articles published in Synergisia, including data, graphics, and supplements, can be linked from external sources, scanned by search engines, reused by text-mining applications or websites, blogs, and others free of charge on condition of proper accreditation of the original source and publisher. Synergisia believes that open access publishing encourages the exchange of research results among scientists from different disciplines, thus facilitating interdisciplinary research. Open access publishing also provides access to research results to researchers around the world, including those from developing countries, and to the interested general public. Although Synergisia publishes all its articles under the open access model, we believe that open access is an enriching part of the scientific communication process that can and should be shared.
